We Drive with Esmee Hawkey

In 2021, Porsche Cars Great Britain introduced their programme to help aspiring female journalists with their media careers through expert advice and workshops and in true Porsche fashion, these motoring journalists were also given the opportunity to drive some Porsche models.

This unique project, 'We Drive', was founded after Porsche Cars Great Britain highlighted that women seem to be vastly under-represented in the automotive journalism field, compared to their male counterparts.

This year, We Drive enlisted the help of racing professional, Esmee Hawkey, to host an exclusive track day for 12 aspiring female racing drivers from all over the world.

Although this is slightly different from the first focus of female automotive journalism, Rory Lumsdon, Director, Public Relations at Porsche Cars Great Britain previously commented: “The title ‘We Drive’ is deliberately inclusive because it isn’t just about women, or just about journalism, it’s about helping exciting, fresh talent into the automotive media landscape,”.

This unique racing experience held at Brands Hatch circuit in England included opportunities for the 12 attendees to speak to representatives from Porsche's media and motorsport departments and a Q&A session with Hawkey. In their track sessions, the women were also lucky enough to drive some of Porsche's impressive models including the Boxster GTS 4.0 and Cayman GT4.

Hawkey, a Carrera Cup veteran reflected on the event saying: "Throughout my whole racing career, I’ve flown the flag for females in motorsport, so to be able to spend a day with 12 like-minded women who all aspire to a racing career was always going to be great fun."

We look forward to seeing what is next for We Drive, and the exciting opportunities Porsche Cars Great Britain will create within this programme.
